HANOVER, Pa. — A former employee at an Adams County snack manufacturing plant was disarmed by a manager and other workers after allegedly attacking his former boss with a machete, Conewago Township Police said.
Christopher Wellborn Apgar, 23, of Carlisle, claimed to have ingested cough syrup prior to the incident, which occurred Friday afternoon at Utz Quality Foods on the 100 block of Kindig Lane, according to police.
Officers dispatched to the scene at 12:58 p.m. reported finding Apgar, who was "drenched in sweat and incoherent," being physically restrained by a group of employees at the plant.
His former supervisor told police Apgar had been fired two days earlier.
On the day of the incident, police said, Apgar showed up at the plant carrying a machete in his backpack. The supervisor confronted Apgar, and a struggle ensued. The supervisor was able to disarm Apgar, and other employees intervened to help restrain him, witnesses told police.
A female employee at the plant reported that before the supervisor intervened, Apgar approached her at her work area, grabbed her by the hips and professed his love for her, police said.
Police reported the woman was crying and "visibly scared" by the incident.
It took six employees to restrain Apgar, and at least 30 employees were present at the time of the incident, according to police.
Apgar is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass.
