Police investigating man's death in Adams County, found Littlestown woman's home to be in 'dirty and deplorable' condition

The body of a man was still in the bathroom at Kayla Little's home when police arrived, authorities say. There were rats observed near her children's room.

LITTLESTOWN, Pa. — Police have charged an Adams County woman with two counts of endangering the welfare of children for allegedly allowing her children to live in "deplorable," rat-infested conditions at her Littlestown home.

Kayla Little, 35, was charged Monday by State Police, according to a criminal complaint affidavit.

Authorities were dispatched to Little's home on Nov. 1 for a death investigation at the request of the Adams County District Attorney's Office. The matter was initially investigated by Littlestown Police on Nov. 1, authorities said.

In a request for help on GoFundMe posted that day, Little claimed her two children had "recently lost their father suddenly."

The Adams County Coroner's Office determined the 36-year-old man, whose name was not released, died of natural causes.

When State Police arrived at the home, located on the 100 block of West King Street, they found the home was "full of trash and dirty conditions," with multiple holes in the ceiling, and "numerous rats running through the living room and kitchen area," according to the complaint affidavit.

The deceased was still in the home. Police found his body in a bathroom. There was a rat observed on the body when police arrived, the complaint states.

Police said the bathroom connected to the children's bedroom, which was also "dirty and deplorable," according to the complaint. Rats were seen near the doorway of the bedroom and feces was seen on the bathroom wall, according to police.

State Police and members of the Littlestown Borough Police Department were dispatched to take photos and record video of the home's conditions, the complaint states. The photos were sent to investigating police on Nov. 7.

Little has posted bail since being arrested.

According to State Police, the two children are living with her in another location.
