ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — A portion of Adams County has issued a ban on open burning until further notice, due to dry weather conditions and potential fire safety issues.

Oxford Township officials issued the ban this week. It prohibits all open burning and all burning of items in barrels, the township said.

Most open burn bans, like the one issued in Lebanon County last Friday, do not apply to the use of tobacco, cooking on gas or charcoal grills, or the burning of camp fires at designated campsites in state or federal parks.

Open burning bans are generally enforced by local and State Police.

Anyone who violates the ban will be subject to a fine of $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense, and $300 for any offenses thereafter.
