GETTYSBURG, Pa. — A Canadian man has been charged with using a sword to cause thousands of dollars in damage to several automobiles parked outside a Gettysburg hotel over the weekend, police said.

Raymond Bondy, 39, of Edmonton, Alberta, is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol when he embarked on what Gettysburg Police called a "destructive rampage" in the parking lot of the 1863 Inn of Gettysburg Sunday night, according to charging documents.

He reportedly used a black sword he retrieved from his vehicle to slash the tires of four cars parked near his at about 11:18 p.m. Sunday. A hotel employee who witnessed the alleged incident contacted police, according to the criminal complaint.

Responding officers found Bondy leaning against a railing on the third floor of the hotel, with his legs splayed out in front of him. The strong odor of alcohol was emanating from his person, the arresting officer noted. Police took Bondy into custody and then went to the hotel office to observe surveillance footage of the incident, according to the complaint.

The footage showed a man matching Bondy's appearance go to a red Ford pickup truck to retrieve a two-foot-long black SOG tactical sword, which he used to stab and slash the tires of two vehicles parked next to his, according to the complaint.

Bondy is then seen slashing at the tires of two other vehicles on the other side of the lot before he returned the sword to his vehicle, went to the third floor, and sat by the railing until police arrived.

Police estimate that Bondy caused more than $3,300 in damage to the four vehicles.

He is charged with possessing an instrument of crime, criminal mischief, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct, according to the complaint.

Bondy's identification cards state he is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, the complaint stated.
