READING, Pa. — A Berks County university announced it is launching a new academy for prospective drone pilots.

Reading-based Alvernia University on Monday announced the launch of its Drone Operations Academy in partnership with DARTdrones' Professional Wings Program.

The academy is part of Alvernia's new AccelerateAU Program, which delivers cutting-edge non-credit certificate programs designed to equip professionals with evolving skills for thriving in rapidly evolving industries.

"We are thrilled to partner with DARTdrones to bring this cutting-edge program to the Reading and Greater Berks County community," said Alvernia University Vice President for Graduate and Adult Education Gaetan T. The Drone Operations Academy will be based at Alvernia's main campus in Reading, and provides students with a unique opportunity to go from zero experience to ready-to-fly with an all-inclusive package that includes Basic Flight Training Course, Part 107 Test Preparation course and the Real World Flight Training Program.

The academy will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on August 10-11.

The program includes one full day of flight training, one full day of Part 107 in-person training, and full access to 14 online micro-courses called the Real-World Flight Planning and Execution Program.

The program is suitable for anyone interested in attaining their Part 107 drone certification training regardless of their experience level. While drone enthusiasts are welcome, this program is intended for those wishing to be qualified to fly drones for commercial use.

The program is appropriate for those looking to make a career change, start their own business or operate drones for their current organization.

The cost for the all-inclusive program is $1,250 per participant. Interested participants can enroll by visiting Alvernia University Drone Operations Academy.
