LEWISBERRY, Pa. — A York County woman is facing child endangerment charges after police claim she allowed three children she was babysitting to drive her vehicle in the parking lot of a Fairview Township apartment complex.
The vehicle struck an apartment building, causing damage to both the vehicle and the property, according to police.
Lakesha Nicole Clark, 31, of Lewisberry, was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the alleged incident, which occurred on October 20 on the 500 block of Kellinger Road, police said.
The investigation began when the children's mother contacted authorities after learning Clark allowed two of her children, ages 9, 10 and 12, to drive her rental car, a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe.
The 10-year-old backed the vehicle into the apartment building, according to police.
Clark, who was showing signs of intoxication including slurred speech when police arrived, allegedly admitted she allowed the children to drive and unsuccessfully attempted to apply the brakes from the passenger seat when the 10-year-old backed into the building.
Clark allegedly told police she "did not get to do things like that as a child," according to the complaint.
After the investigation, police charged Clark with one felony count of endangering the welfare of children, two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children, and three misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, according to the complaint.
