ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. — The Battle of Gettysburg lasted from July 1 through July 3, 1863.
While it was 161 years ago, the history and significance of the battle are as strong today as it has ever been, and reenactments help people visualize what many can't even imagine.
This weekend at Daniel Lady Farm in Adams County, history will be on full display, because the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Society is hosting a Battle of Gettysburg reenactment.
Chris Jones, a Civil War reenactor as well as the facilities manager at the farm, shared they're always trying to make the event better
"It's very important to remember what the men did here... no matter what we cannot let their struggle be forgotten, they always need to be properly honored which we're striving to do better and better with authentic uniforms, authentic camps," Jones said.
Doug Snyder and Steve Reincke, both Union reenactors, have been taking part in events like this for almost 30 years.
"It's a great way to develop friendships and enjoy your love of history, so it's been very rewarding," Snyder said.
Reincke shared that doing these reenactments brings history alive and emphasizes the impact the Civil War had on the country.
"We don't talk about it enough, we fought each other for things we believed in, and it changed us forever," Reincke said.
Gates open to the farm at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.
Tickets for the weekend event can be purchased online or at the gate. Bleacher seats for Saturday are sold out.
