HERSHEY, Pa. — The Hershey Bears honored local first responders during FOX43 Hometown Heroes night.
Before the game, K9 Cash and Officer Andrew Condran from the Derry Township Police Department participated in the ceremonial puck drop.
Members of the Derry Township Police Department and the Hershey Fire Department held a large American flag on the ice during the National Anthem.
Once the game started, the Bears came out quick.
Pierrick Dube scored at 2:01 for an early 1-0 lead.
Aaron Ness added the second tally at 4:40.
In the second period, Mike Vecchione put the Bears up 3-0.
In the third period, Alex Limoges, back from injury, sealed the game with a goal to give the Bears a 4-0 win over the Bridgeport Islanders (13-25-5-0).
Hunter Shepard’s second shutout of the season helped power the Bears (36-8-0-2) to the win in front of a Saturday night crowd of 10,583 at GIANT Center.
The victory gave Hershey its fifth straight home win, and Bears head coach Todd Nelson earned his 389th career head coaching victory in the AHL to move past former Hartford/Connecticut bench boss Ken Gernander (388) for sole possession of eighth on the AHL’s head coaching wins list.
The Bears next game is Friday in Providence, Rhode Island.
