York County tattoo shop raises money for Tollbooth Antiques after fire

A month after a warehouse fire leveled an antique store, area artists are taking recovery efforts into their own hands.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. — More than a month after a warehouse fire leveled Tollbooth Antiques in Columbia, some community members are still rallying behind the store.

Black Kraft Tattoo Company will host a charity flash tattoo day on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to support Tollbooth Antiques' vendors and their hunt for a new home.

After Tollbooth Antiques' warehouse burned down, Angeles Rafael and fellow artist Jonathan Gilbert knew they needed to take action.

Rafael said, "We both were like avid goers because we like antiques and all that stuff, collectibles...We just wanted to help in any way we could.”

With no specific fundraising goal in mind, Gilbert says he plans to tattoo as many people as he can or as he said, “just tattooing till I drop."

Gilbert explained,  “We want to keep it as efficient as possible."

There will be four tattoo artists working the event, and designs shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to tattoo. That’s why the event only includes flash tattoos or simple, pre-drawn designs, each with an $80 price tag.

But even in simplicity, Rafael says the shop found a way to honor Tollbooth Antiques in the designs.

"We wanted to make them like reference or kind of in the same ballpark as an antique-y feel," Rafael said.

Customers can choose any of the antique themed designs but the event is first come first serve and cash preferred.

On top of getting there early, organizers want to remind those getting tattoos at the fundraiser to eat before they arrive to avoid passing out.

But don't worry, if you can't eat before the event, Blue Stone Bakery will provide a food truck with snacks and refreshments.

For those who want to donate to Tollbooth but don't want to get inked, there will be a donation bucket option.
