YORK, Pa. — York Burger Week is in its final countdown, but there's still plenty of time left to try the food fashions created by innovative chefs around town.
Gift Horse Brewing Company featuring Happy Camper Eats & Treats has smashing new specials for the theme week, including a dessert "burger" made of cookies with ice cream and a taco burger.
For those who prefer a hamburger that sticks closer to the classics, the Widowmaker checks all the boxes. Piled high with three house-made smash patties, slices of thick-cut bacon and cheese, this burger is as juicy as it is flavorful.
"They're so thin and crispy, but they're so juicy," Nathan Snyder, Happy Camper chef, said about smash burgers. "So you can put multiple layers.
"We use fresh ground beef from Godfrey Brothers Meats every week. So we use a local meat source for everything."
Guests who are feeling a bit more adventurous may enjoy the taste of summer they'll get with the Shrimpin’ Smash Burger. A house-made smash patty is loaded with jumbo shrimp, cheese and Old Bay seasoning to bring a bit of the beach to downtown York.
"Nate's got his half-pound shrimp special every Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and people come in because they love it, so we wanted to throw it on a burger," Erin Levine, Gift Horse bar manager, said.
Gift Horse has several drink specials for the week as well, including Skittles and margarita slushies.
The craft brewery will also host several events and live musicians to close out the rest of Burger Week:
Gift Horse and Happy Camper can be found at 117 N. George St. in downtown York. The eatery is open on Wednesday from 4 - 10 p.m., Thursday from 4 - 11 p.m., Friday - Saturday from noon - midnight and Sunday from noon - 8 p.m.
