Coal Miners Heritage Festival held in Pennsylvania

No.9 Coal Mine & Museum in Lansford held its 17th annual Coal Miners Heritage Festival on Sunday.

LANSFORD, Pa. — One festival brought all kinds of coal mining fun to Carbon County on Sunday.

The 17th annual Coal Miners' Heritage Festival was held at the No.9 Coal Mine & Museum in Lansford.

Folks could tour the No.9 Coal Mine, visit the museum, and stop by historical displays.

Organizers say the festival is a great way for people to learn about Pennsylvania's coal mining history.

"It's great to see that so many people have an interest in their roots here in the coal region, their family roots, their culture, and they come out and celebrate with us annually celebrating all the unique things that make us the Pennsylvania, northeast coal region unique," said Dale Freudenberger, No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum.

There was also a coal shoveling competition and coal sack races at the event in Carbon County.
