Harrisburg High School alum qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

Harrisburg native Jakari Lomax will attend the trials on June 30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — A central Pennsylvania native has earned a spot at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trails in the triple jump.

Harrisburg native Jakari Lomax will attend the trials on June 30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Currently a student and athlete at Youngstown State University in Ohio, Lomax has become just the fourth athlete in school history to earn qualifying status at the U.S. Trials.

Lomax was one of 24 athletes to earn the spot in the triple jump, courtesy of his personal-best leap of 15.83mm, which he achieved on April 6, according to Youngstown State.

The Harrisburg High alum achieved a personal-best mark of 14.83 in the triple jump and 6.75 m in the long jump during the 2018 PIAA State Championships. In 2020, Lomax became the first Youngstown State University student in school history to win the triple jump with a mark of 14.88m and broke the triple jump school record with a mark of 15.26 at the YSU Icebreaker.

More recently, Lomax captured his fifth consecutive title in the triple jump at the Horizon League Championships in 2024. He also jumped a personal best of 15.74m in the triple jump at the UMass Lowell Riverhawk Invitational.
