YORK, Pa. — The City of York has a new centerpiece for this winter season.
An 8,000-pound community Christmas tree was donated to add to downtown York's ambiance for the holidays.
At around 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 14, crews started work on cutting down the tree and then transported it nearly 10 miles to Continental Square.
This year's hefty tree was donated by Lori Floyd of Seven Valleys, who has donated the widest tree the city has ever had.
Mayor Michael Helfrich extended a "thank you" to Floyd on behalf of the residents of York City and York County.
The Christmas tree traveled for approximately 20 minutes from Seven Valleys to Continental Square, and will now be decorated for the upcoming Light Up York ceremony on Dec. 6.
