Pennsylvania colleges ranked in U.S. News's best colleges of 2025 list

The U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2025 was released and 24 of Pennsylvania's colleges were ranked nationally.

PENNSYLVANIA, USA — U.S. News released the Best National University Rankings, a list of U.S. colleges that is meant to serve as a resource for college students in the decision-making process.

The list of best colleges takes the priorities of students into account to generate the list including ample classroom resources for students and faculty, the number of graduates who entered the workforce with manageable debt and stable salaries, cost of attendance and more.

Out of this list, Pennsylvania had 24 colleges that were nationally ranked.

University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania was the highest-ranked college in Pennsylvania, standing at No. 10. UPenn is a private institution with an undergraduate enrollment of 9,995 with tuition and fees sitting at $68,686. Located in Philadelphia, the school also has more than 25 NCAA Division I sports and around 20% of the student body is involved in Greek life.

Carnegie Mellon University

Ranked No. 21, Carnegie Mellon is a private institution located in Pittsburgh with an undergraduate population of 7,707. Known for their science and technology programs, tuition and fees are about $65,636.

Lehigh University

With 5,811 students in its undergraduate enrollment, Lehigh University ranked No. 46 on the best colleges list. Outside Philadelphia and New York City, Lehigh's tuition is $64,980. Its most known programs are the graduate program, College of Education and the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science.

  • La Salle University (No. 231)
  • Misericordia University (No. 244)
  • Gannon University (No. 244)
  • Widener University (No. 266)
  • Wilkes University (No. 288)
  • Immaculata University (No. 288)
  • DeSales University (No. 296)
  • Gwynedd Mercy University (No. 296)
  • Alvernia University (No. 329)
  • Indiana University of Pennsylvania (No. 329)
  • Point Park University (No. 329)
