Campers enjoy long holiday weekend

Campers are packing up their gear and heading home as one of the last weekends of summer comes to a close.

ELYSBURG, Pa. — Fall is steadily approaching as the Labor Day weekend wraps up and campers are packing up their gear for the last time this summer.

“October, we get a couple little warm days, but yeah, it's coming to an end," said Mark Polsky from Pennsburg.

“I love camping but it's just a change, we're going into fall, we need a lot of firewood for the house, it's just a change, another season," said Joe Philson from Lewistown.

Campers at Indian Head Campground near Bloomsburg spent their weekend cooking, listening to music, relaxing with their friends, spending time by the creek, and fishing.

Some campers at Knoebels Campground kept up with decades-long traditions.

“My wife's family started camping here every Labor Day weekend since 1980. Every weekend, they're here, and we have several sites, and this is our particular site," said Joe Philson from Lewistown.

While the fall and winter cold may be discouraging to some, to others, it's the season they've been waiting for.

Honestly we prefer the cooler weather, and even the cooler weather doesn't bother us, but yeah we'll be actually back out here in October, we're looking forward to it," David Parmele, from State College.

Even still, saying goodbye to summer comes with a heavy heart to some outdoor enthusiasts.

"This has been kind of touted as our 'we're going to get out to Knoebles, we're going to get there on Labor Day Weekend, and it's going to see us till the end of summer,'" David Parmele, from state college.
