HANOVER, Pa.–California-based In Defense of Animals, announced Wednesday its own $2,500 reward for information after a 4-year-old cat was found tortured in Hanover on Dec. 30.
The cat, named Faith, was found wandering near Ruth Avenue with a wire twisted around her neck. A resident found the injured cat and took her to the Penn Township Fire Department where they cut the wire. Faith was then taken to Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter for treatment, but her injuries were so severe that she had to be euthanized. A necropsy revealed Faith had a fractured skull, possibly from a blow to the head with a hammer or similar object.
York County SPCA believe that whoever is responsible for torturing Faith could be charged with misdemeanor animal abuse.
“We thank In Defense of Animals for offering this reward and we are hopeful that it will encourage people with information to come forward,” said Executive Director of York County SPCA, Melissa Smith. “Animal cruelty is a crime against society and must be treated with the same significance as violence to humans. We urge our community in York County to take this situation very seriously and to help bring justice for poor Faith who endured such horrendous treatment.”
In Defense of Animals President Dr Marilyn Kroplick said “It is vital that strong laws are in place and used, in order to protect animals and deter criminals from moving on to other victims.”
Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who viciously mistreated and caused the death of Faith is urged to call or contact Humane Society Police Officer Nicole Lawrence at (717) 764 6109 ext.127.
