An Adams County church is mixing, rolling and baking in order to send its youth group on a missions trip.

Saint James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg looks more like a bakery these days as hundreds of dozens of Fastnachts are being made and sold ahead of Shrove Tuesday.

So far, 850-dozen of the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch doughnuts have been ordered.

Organizers expect to sell as many as 1,000-dozen before the sale is over.

"It's a good bonding experience, the folks that work together have a good time and we're certainly grateful for all the people who buy the Fastnachts because if we didn't have them buying Fastnachts, it wouldn't be much of a fundraiser," said Sally Hoh, Youth Group Director at Saint James.

The church has been selling fastnachts for the past 20-years.

Money raised from the sale will help offset the cost of upcoming missions trips for members of the church youth group.
