An Adams County couple made an unusual discovery Friday afternoon when they found a stray alligator behind their home. The three-foot-long gator was found along the 1400 block of Herrs Ridge Road in Cumberland Township around 5 p.m.
It remains unclear how the alligator wound up on the back steps in the first place. Police believe the reptile was someone’s pet that may have been set loose.
Officers are attempting to locate the owner.
“To my knowledge this has never happened in Cumberland Township before,” said Sergent Matthew Trostel.
A Wildlife Conservation Officer took the gator to a private exotic animal shelter.
