FAYETTEVILLE, AR– Animal workers in Arkansas save a cat that was shot through that head with an arrow.
The cat, Simba, had surgery to remove the arrow and is being cared for by a veterinarian according to KFSM.
“I can’t believe he’s still alive,” said Anthony Rankin, manager of the Animal Services Program for the city of Fayetteville.
The animal’s 13-year-old owner is currently in Florida and a neighbor was taking care of him. When she saw the wounded cat Wednesday morning, she called for help.
“There was no reason why a person should shoot an animal like that,” She said. “It was shocking.”
Veterinarian Valerie Henley said she had never seen anything like it. She said that, “The arrow was straight through the head. In through the cheek, out through the nose.”
Simba was still energetic when he went in for surgery, and was even purring according to Henley.
“I just pulled [the arrow] all the way out, and it came out no problem, no bleeding,” Henley said. “Very miracle like, and something was watching over that kitty.”
Simba is expected to survive and the person who shot him with an arrow will face animal cruelty charges, according to Rankin.
The Fayetteville Police Department and Fayetteville Animal Services are working together to find the person responsible.
