MT. JOY, Pa. – Mike Sarbaugh, a 1985 Donegal High School graduate, was a three sport athlete in high school.
“As a junior I was a starter on the basketball team. (When) I was a senior and Mike was a freshman, Mike took my starting spot on the basketball team,” said Athletic Director and Sarbaugh’s former classmate Ron Kennedy.
Sarbaugh is in the Donegal Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in basketball, soccer and baseball.
In college, Sarbaugh chose to play baseball. He was an infielder. Sarbaugh would ultimately play minor league ball, coach in the minor leagues and in 2013 became a third base / infield coach for the Cleveland Indians. He is now coaching in the World Series as the Indians look to beat the Chicago Cubs in game 7.
“It`s awesome to see. To see a local hometown boy like Mike be in the series is really neat,” said Kennedy.
“I wanna see them win. I think all of us want to see them win,” said Donegal High School principal and Sarbaugh’s former teacher John Felix.
“I have to root for Mike tonight. Yeah, I`m really pulling for the Indians, absolutely,” adds Kennedy.
