HARRISBURG, Pa. - Convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky and his wife Dottie won an appeal to get his pension from Penn State University back. The Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement Board ruled to take Sandusky's pension away after he was convicted of assaulting ten boys. Sandusky has served three years of a minimum thirty year prison sentence.
Friday the State Commonwealth Court ruled "because we find that nothing in the record in any way establishes that Mr. Sandusky was a PSU employee when the underlying criminal acts were committed, we reverse the board's decision".
Sandusky officially retired from Penn State University in 1999. Sex crimes against children only became a reason to lose your state pension in 2004.
"We were pleased and I have to give praise to our lawyers," said Dottie Sandusky.
The Sanduskys will receive $59,000 a year which is $4,900 a month. Furthermore, they will receive back pay with interest.
"Many times, the right decision under the law will not be popular with the public," said Attorney Bruce Zero.
"I can't even think of anything to write. I'm so disgusted right now," said Sommer Perez.
"We euthanize animals that bite our children but pay the ones that sexually abuse them... Way to go PA, said Justine Seitz.
" Any personal reaction that I would have I just withhold. I respect the law here in the Commonwealth," said Penn State trustee, Keith Eckel.
