A former Indiana Pizza Hut manager claims he was fired for not opening up his store on Thanksgiving day.
Tony Rohr says he was told it was mandatory to open his Elkhart Pizza Hut this year. Normally, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days out of the year the pizza chain is closed.
He told his bosses he would not open the store, and thus he says he got let go. Rohr claims he did it for his employees. He said instead of signing a letter of resignation, which is what he says Pizza Hut told him to do, he wrote a rebuttal letter explaining his decision.
“I said why can’t we be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees and they can have the day off,” adds Rohr. “In the whole year they’re the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families.”
Rohr’s bosses say he quit, and the decision to open the restaurant on Thanksgiving came from the corporate level, not the regional level.
