Former State Senator Mike Waugh passed away this morning after battling an illness. He was 58 years old. Waugh served as Senator from the 28th District from 1998-2014.

Waugh was a key member of the Senate Republican leadership, serving as Caucus Chairman. Previously, he served in the House of Representatives for six years. Prior to being elected to the General Assembly, he served as a Township Supervisor in Shrewsbury Township, York County.

Born in York, Waugh graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School and attended the Pennsylvania State University, York campus. He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda. They have one son, Joseph, and a granddaughter, Camdyn.

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25) and Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) issued the following statement:

“Mike Waugh was a good man and a good friend. As a member of the General Assembly – first in the House, then in the Senate – he quickly became a statewide leader on agricultural issues. Mike earned universal respect from his colleagues with the quiet, determined way he approached issues.

“He loved York County and worked tirelessly to advance issues important to his constituents. We are all better people for having known and worked with Mike. We will miss him terribly and extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
