Fort Indiantown Gap will be closed to hunters from Saturday, Oct. 12 through Monday, Oct. 14 due to personnel shortages.
Regulations prohibit the post from having certain employees on duty solely to support civilian activities. Due to the federal budget impasse, no military training is taking place this weekend that would allow range safety personnel to stay on duty.
“Fort Indiantown Gap is fortunate to have a positive relationship with our local community thanks in part to our outdoor recreation program,” said Maj. Chuck Kim, Fort Indiantown Gap range control officer. “However, after a careful evaluation of our current staffing constraints, we have determined it will simply not always be feasible for us to safely support our hunting program until the federal budget situation is resolved and staffing levels return to normal.”
Future hunting opportunities will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Updates will be posted on the Fort Indiantown Gap website and Facebook page.Hunting at Fort Indiantown Gap is normally open from the first Saturday after Labor Day to the end of spring turkey season, but only to hunters who have attended mandatory installation safety briefings and paid an annual $30 user fee.
