YORK, Pa– A free publication recently released offers an in-depth look into the geology of the Northern Extension of the York County Heritage Rail Trail.
“A Guide for the Geologic Tourist to the Northern Extension of the York County Heritage Rail Trail” is co-authored by Parks Program Coordinator Jeri Jones and Senior Geologist Rose-Anna Behr of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey.
The guide takes you on a walk back through time as key rock exposures are identified, the action of the Codorus Creek is explained and the land use around the trail is highlighted.
For example, the guide highlights a little-known geologic fault on the north side of the Hellam Hills just south of Mundis Mill Road.
The guide can be downloaded through the Pennsylvania Geologic Survey website or by going to: http://bit.ly/21Fi4hk. The link will take users to the Northern Extension section of the Parks’ website, http://www.yorkcountyparks.org.
