GETTYSBURG, Pa.-- The Gettysburg Fire Department in Adams County held an open house and community day on Sunday.
The event kicked off National Fire Prevention Week and featured station tours, interactive learning and the landing and taking off of a MedEvac helicopter.
"Once they learn at a young age the importance of fire protection, it'll last throughout their lifetime. Seeing the youngsters in their eyes light up when the helicopter lands and they run up and see what actually is involved, at that age that's a real big deal for them," said James Fox, Fire Prevention and Safety Officer for Gettysburg Fire Dept.
Fire Prevention Week was established in 1927 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
