PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A 12-year-old girl is dead and her father injured after a Pennsylvania State Constable shot them while he was trying to enforce an eviction order in Perry County on Monday, according to Pennsylvania State Police reports.
Constable Clarke Steele, 46, arrived at the home along Rebecca Drive in Penn Township shortly after 10 a.m. to serve an eviction order. Donald Meyer, 47, of Duncannon, answered the door and after a brief conversation he pulled out a rifle and pointed at Constable Steele’s chest, according to state police.
Constable Steele pulled out his service weapon and shot Meyer in his upper left arm. The bullet went through Meyer’s arm and hit his 12-year-old daughter, who was standing directly behind her father, investigators said.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. Meyer’s was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities recovered the loaded rifle at the scene.
Meyer’s is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
