Acts of kindness in Harrisburg aimed at helping people in the cold are gaining some attention.
Front Street is known for its scenic view along the Susquehanna River. The popular walking path is lined with trees. If you look closely, you will find some special trees are sprouting up — not from seeds, but from generosity. Handmade scarves and hats are hanging from the branches.
Bob Spayd noticed them during his daily walk along Front Street. "I at first thought that it was just someone homeless hanging up their clothes to dry," said Spayd. When he got closer he saw a note attached. "There's a note that said if you are cold, take me."
"I thought, God is good. I think there are people who are good in this world," said Spayd.
It's unclear who pinned the warm clothing to the branches, but the generosity is not going unnoticed.
Nathan Richardson is putting in a pipeline nearby and saw the trees first thing Tuesday morning. "A couple of the guys came up to me this morning and [said something] about it. It's the first thing I saw. I asked what it was and they went over and looked," said Richardson.
The gesture is proving to be meaningful not only to those in need, but also those simply catching a glimpse of it. "I think it's a pretty good idea. I don't know who did it, why they did it, but I think it's a great idea," said Richardson.
"It's encouraging to see people reach out to those who don't have anything," said Spayd.
