LANCASTER, Pa. - City and state officials broke ground today on the new Conestoga River Plaza in Lancaster. The plaza will sit at the intersection of South Duke and Conestoga streets.
The three-phase, $7 million project began 6 years ago. Phase one included building brand new housing nearby and phase two was the construction of a Family Dollar store.
"[The] southeast area is open for business," Spanish-American Civic Association President Carlos Graubera said. "We want investment. We want partnerships, and we want job creation., and we want home ownership, and we want to set up high standards for the revitalization of this neighborhood."
State, federal, and local tax credit monies were used to fund the project. Construction is scheduled to wrap up by January, and the last phase will feature a grocery store as well as retail shops.
