DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police say a Halifax woman was killed when her SUV was hit by a freight train in Halifax Township early Monday afternoon.
Trisha Lyn Hoffman, 29, died immediately in the crash. Investigators say Hoffman was traveling east on Susquehanna Trail Road in a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV when for unknown reasons, she pulled directly into the path of a Norfolk Southern freight train. It happened at about 2:37 p.m. at the rail crossing leading to N. River Road(Route 147). The roadway was closed for nearly hours after the crash.
The county coroner pronounced Hoffman dead at the scene. PSP say their investigation into the fatal crash continues.
