Timothy East does not want to be considered for the job as Harrisburg's treasurer. That was confirmed at a press conference Tuesday afternoon. East resigned because it came to light that he filed for personal bankruptcy in 2011.
East said he wasn't trying to hide anything, and that the City Council never asked about his bankruptcy before choosing him. City leaders said they hope to appoint a new treasurer during a council meeting next week.
"He [East] was asking his name to be withdrawn from consideration. As a result of that notification the Office of City Treasurer again starts over with a vacancy and a new 30-day clock for appointment by the City Council begins," said Harrisburg's Solicitor Neil Grover.
City Council members confirmed they are also looking into whether they need to change how they do background checks to avoid the same problem in the future.
