PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Pennsylvania SPCA says it has charged a New Holland, Lancaster County man with seven counts of animal cruelty in a case involving three dogs who are currently in the custody of the PSPCA.
Charges against John Huyard, include citations for lack of necessary veterinary care, neglect and lack of sanitary shelter. On November 19, last year, a search warrant was executed on Huyard’s property after the PSPCA received a report of dogs being neglected with regard to their matted coats and veterinary care. Three Maltese-type dogs were removed from the property as evidence, and were taken to the Pennsylvania SPCA’s headquarters in Philadelphia to receive medical care.
Previously, Huyard plead guilty in late 2015 to multiple dog law violations related to failure to keep sanitary kennels.
“The Pennsylvania SPCA is dedicated to protecting animals from cruelty and neglect throughout the state,” said Jerry Buckley, CEO of the PSPCA. “When we receive reports of animal cruelty, our officers are dispatched to investigate, and in cases like this, utilize the legal system to remove the animals from the situation immediately. We look forward to adjudicating this case and finding homes for the animals involved.”
