LANCASTER, Pa.– A Lancaster man was convicted Tuesday of shooting toward a man in Ephrata.
Omar Colon, Jr., 27, was convicted of felony counts of carrying a firearm without a license, solicitation to commit perjury, and misdemeanor counts of simple assault and reckless endangerment.
Colon was prohibited from possessing a weapon due to a prior felony drug conviction.
Evidence was presented at trial that showed on Nov. 9, 2015, Colon fired a shot near a mail acquaintance of his girlfriend at an Ephrata home. Colon fled the scene, but was arrested a month later.
While in Lancaster County Prison, Colon wrote a letter to his girlfriend that contained directions, including a request that the victim either not show up to court or provide false testimony.
Colon told his girlfriend to burn the letter because “the prosecution would love this.”
Prison officials were able to intercept the letter and provided it to police.
Colon, who is already serving a 2.5 to 5 year prison term for a parole violation will now await sentencing after being convicted of these charges.
