GETTYSBURG, Pa.–A 31-year-old man was arrested last month after police said he stole Civil War artifacts from a garage in Gettysburg and then sold them for profit.
Skylar Hertz, of Gettysburg, is charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of receiving stolen property and three counts of criminal attempt by unlawful taking. He was arraigned on Nov. 24 and taken to Adams County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Hertz is accused of stealing various Civil War relics, including a cannon ball, from a garage along the first block of York Street and then sold them to an American Military store located along the 200 block of Steinwehr Avenue in Gettysburg.
Police questioned the owner of the American Military store, who admitted to purchasing the items off Hertz in exchange for cash.
The transactions took place on Sept. 22, Sept 27, Oct. 10 and Oct. 15, according to the criminal complaint. Hertz received over $1,400 in cash for the items, court documents state.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 11.
