FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, Pa.–A York man is facing criminal charges after police said he attacked his former boss with a knife in Fairview Township on Thursday evening.
Jose I. Armas, 51, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.
Police responded to a home located along the 500 block of Salem Road in Fairview Township for a reported stabbing around 6:25 p.m.
According to police reports, Armas was a former employee of 72-year-old George Sgagias. Armas had recently quit and Sgagias and 42-year-old Herbert Ritter were helping him move back to York. Armas invited Sgagias inside his home to help him move his bags to the car. That’s when Armas attacked Sgagias, knocked him to the ground and pulled out a knife to try and stab him, investigators said.
According to police, Ritter saw what happened and ran to his boss’s aide. Ritter grabbed the knife blade and a struggle ensued between the two men. Authorities said Ritter grabbed his own folding knife and stabbed Armas in the stomach. Both Ritter and Sgagias ran out of the building and called for help.
Armas was taken to York Hospital and underwent surgery. Ritter was taken to Harrisburg Hospital and has since been released. He suffered cuts to his hand, neck and arms during the struggle with Armas.
Sgagias sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.
Armas will be arraigned after he is released from the hospital.
Police said Ritter will not be charged, as his actions were determined to be in self-defense.
