The newest viral video craze called ‘Gallon Smashing‘ isn’t getting any laughs from people in York County.  ‘Gallon Smashing‘ is the act in which pranksters pretend to trip and fall in a grocery store while carrying milk or juice.  The falls are completely fake and pranksters trick bystanders into thinking they are actually hurt. In the meantime they end up damaging property and often getting debris all over innocent shoppers.

In Franklin County: on February 28th three teenage boys were cited after filming their version at the Food Lion along the 800 block of Lincoln Way West  in Hamilton Township. 18-year old Benjamin Roschy, of Chambersburg and two juvenile boys were each cited after Roschy intentionally broke two 1-gallon jugs of chocolate milk in the aisle of the grocery store.

York County District Attorney Tom Kearney says the prank is stupid and teens need to focus their energy on something more positive. “There’s so many good things that young people can be doing. To do something stupid like this it just doesn’t make any sense.” He says pranksters in York County will be prosecuted. “It’s not only irresponsible it’s a crime. If you’re going to take somebody’s property that’s offered for sale and destroy it or convert it to your own use, that’s theft. In addition to that it’s criminal mischief. There’s so many good things that young people can be doing. If you’re going to go and commit a crime, you’re going to be punished for it.”

Shoppers at Giant weren’t amused either. “I’d say the kid’s kind of a jerk,” said Michael Comiskey. “I wouldn’t be too happy if I got splattered with that stuff. The way he’s fake falling and throwing stuff he could hurt somebody. But you know somebody else has got to clean up the mess too. I’m all for humor and I can find the humor in things but that’s a little too much for me. The way he’s acting the way he’s throwing things around it could damage other things and makes a mess for everybody else.”

“Somebody had to clean that up, you know. I hope they made them clean it up,” said Mary Boser.
