SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -Shippensburg University officials issued the following email to students in reaction to an anonymous threat to the University:
University Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the United States Postal Service are investigating an anonymous letter a faculty member received at home that contained a threat of violence against the university.
Though there is no current information to verify the validity of the letter or that the threat is credible, any threat made against the university or any member of the campus community is taken seriously and is vigorously investigated. The joint investigation will continue as long as necessary until the issue is resolved.
In light of the threat, additional security measures have been put in place on campus and will continue through finals and the Spring Commencement ceremonies. These changes will further enhance the numerous safety measures we currently have in place.
As the investigation continues, all members of the campus community are encouraged to report anything of concern that you observe on campus to University Police as soon as possible. If something or someone looks suspicious, out of place or just does not feel right, please report it. Campus safety works best when everyone is involved.
Anyone with possible information concerning the letter is asked to contact either University Police or the Pennsylvania State Police. University Police can be reached at 477-1444. Both police departments can be reached by dialing 911.
The end of the semester can be a stressful time. Students who feel they need assistance may call the Counseling Center at 477-1481. This service, free to students, is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Also, if you know someone who you think may need help, please contact the Counseling Center.
