LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa.– UPDATE (July 20, 3:30 p.m.): The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office released more information on the incident, saying that Dawood Al-Barwari died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound hours after shooting 48-year-old Ghada Saleb to death in West Hempfield Township Thursday night.
West Hempfield Township police, in consultation with the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, intended to charge Al-Barwari, 55, with homicide regarding the death of Saleb.
According to information obtained thus far in the investigation, Al-Barwari and Saleb, 48, were involved in a relationship between 2015 and 2016.
Al-Barwari, of Lancaster city, had engaged in stalking-type behavior for at least the past year, individuals close to Saleb told police.
Police determined Al-Barwari had parked at Saleb’s Lincoln West Drive home for several hours prior to the killing, awaiting her return. When she got home just after 11 p.m., Al-Barwari confronted her and shot her multiple times outside her home.
Multiple individuals provided police with Al-Barwari’s name and reported seeing him in the area before and after the shooting.
Just before 9 a.m., police and other emergency-responders were dispatched to the Wal-Mart on Fruitville Pike in Manheim Township. Al-Barwari was in a red SUV – the same vehicle he was seen in at the murder scene – apparently deceased.
Preliminary investigation showed he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A gun was recovered at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
UPDATE (July 20, 10:45 a.m.): Police have located Al-Barwari’s vehicle in a Walmart parking lot in the 2000 block of Fruitville Pike.
A body found in the vehicle has been identified as that of Dawood Al-Barwari.
PREVIOUSLY: Police are searching for a man who allegedly shot and killed a woman on Thursday night.
Dawood Al-Barwari, aka Dawood M. Dawood, 55, is considered to be armed and dangerous, as the weapon used in the shooting was not recovered.
On July 19, police were called to the Lincoln West Apartments in West Hempfield Township just before 11:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found a 48-year-old woman deceased from gunshot wounds and witnesses told police that a suspect, later determined to be Al-Barwari, entered a red Ford SUV and was last seen heading east on Columbia Avenue.
During the investigation, police determined that the shooting was domestic related, and that Al-Barwari and the woman had not been together since 2016.
Al-Barwari is 6’5″ tall with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes.
He wears glasses and has facial hair, possibly more than the photos we have show.
Al-Barwari drives a 2011 red Ford Edge with a PA registration “KBV8885”.
He is from Iraq and walks with a limp from an injury he received while fighting for the Iraqi military.
