HARRISBURG, Pa. – The new Route 441 bypass around Columbia Borough in western Lancaster County opened to traffic this morning shortly after 11 AM.
PennDOT began work in May last year to build the bypass on the west side Columbia Borough that will help direct truck traffic away from traveling through borough’s downtown.
PennDOT contracted with Kinsley Construction, Inc. of York, Pennsylvania, to build the bypass for $11.8 million. Technicians this morning put into operation two new traffic signals – one at the north end of the bypass at Chickies Hill Road and the other near the south end of the bypass at Bridge Street.
After a few adjustments, the barricades were moved to allow traffic to begin using the new bypass.
