YORK COUNTY, Pa. – A Baltimore man is behind bars on multiple charges including stealing a police cruiser. Springettsbury Township Police responded to a report of a shoplifter at the Wal-Mart on East Market Street at about 1 o’clock Monday afternoon.
When officers attempted to take the man into custody he ran headed west on Industrial Highway. Other officers, including Spring Garden Township Police, York Area Regional Police, and State Police, arrived on the scene. One officer got out of his car to join the pursuit on foot leaving the vehicle with the engine running and emergency lights flashing. The suspect somehow doubled back, jumped into the idling cruiser and took off. Immediately police followed in pursuit.
The suspect eventually abandoned the police car on Memory Lane and continued fleeing on foot. He ran to the Mexitaly Brick Oven Brewhouse in the 2400 block of East Market Street. He ran through the restaurant and out through the back. A host of police officers converged on the restaurant, searched and discovered, 21 year old Marlo Harvard, Jr. hiding in a dumpster.
Harvard is charged with Theft by Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle, Theft by Unlawful Taking of a Firearm, Retail, Theft, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing and Eluding Police and other traffic offenses.
