One person is dead following a series of car crash’s near GreenCastle in Franklin County.
State Police are saying that four separate crashes occurred around 10Am this morning on I-81 going Northbound at mile marker 6 in Antrim Township.
Police say a tractor-trailer jacked-knifed, blocking both of the northbound lanes and causing multiple crashes.
Beverly Grantier, 77, of Wellsville, New York was killed in one of these crashes. Police believe she was sitting in the middle seat of a minivan that was involved in one of the crashes. Gordon Grantier, 79, also of Wellsville was critically injured.
The crashes led to I-81 being shut down in both directions. Southbound lanes opened up within a few hours; northbound lanes remained closed until about 3:30PM.
Officials say nine vehicles crashed and numerous vehicles were stuck in the median. Authorities have blamed snowy conditions moving suddenly through the county.
