Starting Wednesday, June 11, motorists are advised they will encounter traffic restrictions on Main Street earlier in the morning on weekdays in the Borough of Hummelstown, Dauphin County. Single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers directing motorists through the work zone will start weekdays at 6 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m. Motorists should allow additional time in their travel plans or seek alternate routes in order to avoid delays.
Until this week, United Water has been restricting weekday traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for their project to replace its waterline under Main Street in Hummelstown. This work is being done in preparation for a PennDOT roadway repair and resurfacing project currently underway. The change in hours is necessary so that the waterline replacement can be completed more quickly, enabling PennDOT and its contractor to finish the repaving of Main Street this year, before the onset of winter. Because the heavier traffic volume occurs in the late afternoon, the utility work is starting in the early morning – affecting the morning rush hour — in order to wrap up daily before the busier afternoon rush hour.
