YORK, Pa. — Students were dismissed early from William Penn Senior High School in York City after the report of a threat involving a gun. After students were dismissed, police sweeping the building did find a gun in the school.
The school received a report of a gun on the premises around 9:45 a.m. Thursday. Staff notified the York City Police Department, who enacted a lock down. Students and staff remained in their classrooms as police officers searched the building.
The high school dismissed at 12:20 p.m. to allow investigators to search the building more extensively.
Superintendent Eric Holmes says the school got a tip the gun was in a back pack, but did not confirm that’s where they found it.
A 16 year old student was charged with three separate gun possession charges by the York City Police Department and placed in York County Juvenile Detention.
