NORTH YORK, Pa.–With just a few weeks left in the school year, Yorktowne Business Institute in North York announced Thursday that the school is closing in June.
About 60 students currently enrolled will need to figure out where they will attend next year.
The institution has offered a variety of programs including two-year specialized associate degrees in the fields of Business, Medical and Culinary Arts since being founded in 1976. The school employs 39 full and part-time faculty and staff.
In its announcement, York Business Institute said it will immediately help current students make plans to attend or transfer to other colleges, universities and technical schools.
York Business Institute has also been working with the state Department of Education, and the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administrators to help with the transition.
“We are proud of our history in the York community and the success of our graduates,” said YBI President, Dr. James Murphy in a statement. “At the same time we are heartened by the fact that there are other fine schools in the York, Lancaster and Harrisburg areas where students can finish their training. We would also like to assure graduates and the community that this decision does not diminish the high quality of a Yorktowne Business Institute education.”
Administrators made the decision to close the school, citing declining enrollment as the reason.
The school will close on June 15.
