Good Samaritan warns of fire at York County community center

YORK COUNTY, Pa. – A passerby is credited with warning of a fire at York County community building. The fire broke out  shortly after 3 p.m. at the Fishing Creek Community Center, in the 500 block of Locust Road.  The building houses an EMS and a fire station.  A passerby saw a bush was on fire and the spreading to the building.

A class of 10 to 15 people was also taking place at the time of the fire. The good Samaritan  man ran into the building and alerted the class that the building was on fire. Everyone evacuated safely.

The apparently started in some shrubbery and spread up the side of the building to the roof.  Fire crews on scene reported smoke from the roof area.

The fire was extinguished in less than an hour. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
