CARLISLE, Pa. — Police in Cumberland County have charged a Carlisle man with stealing money from his employer's cash register.
Tynan Burwell, 27, was employed at a Flying J convenience store on the 1500 block of Harrisburg Pike in Middlesex Township at the time of the alleged theft, which police say occurred on November 13.
According to Middlesex Township Police, the manager of the store contacted authorities after viewing surveillance camera footage that showed Burwell taking $2,729.51 in cash from two registers and a safe. He also was seen on camera taking two gift cards, which he then activated.
Burwell allegedly put $175 on one gift card and $227 on the other, according to police.
In an interview with police, Burwell said he used the money to pay for his room at a nearby Motel 6 where he'd been living, and to purchase food and hygiene products.
He is charged with theft by unlawful taking and access device fraud.
Burwell is being held in Cumberland County Prison after failing to post bail of $3,000 following his arraignment, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 27.
