Emergency responders fight brush fires in York, Cumberland Counties, one contained

The fires were reported in Franklin Township, York County and Monroe Township, Cumberland County, emergency dispatch said.

YORK, Pa. — Update, 5 p.m.: According to the York County Pa. Office of Emergency Management, as of 4 p.m., the mountain fire in Franklin and Carroll Townships is contained. 

The rain coupled with four air drops and the initial attack on the fire by local fire companies contributed to its suppression. 

There were no injuries and no structures sustained any damage. 

Previously: Firefighters and other emergency responders responded to battle separate brush fires in York and Cumberland counties on Monday, according to emergency dispatch accounts.

The first fire was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. off Tuckahoe Road, near Chainsaw and Greenhouse roads in Franklin Township, York County, dispatch said. Several units were sent in response to the blaze.

The second fire was reported shortly after noon in Monroe Township, Cumberland County. It was located in the vicinity of Kuhn Road and Maxele Lane, dispatch said.

The Monroe Township Fire Company advised motorists to use caution when traveling in the area shortly before 1 p.m.
