CARLISLE, Pa. — Starting tomorrow, there will be a new way to pay to park in downtown Carlisle.

The Cumberland County borough said Tuesday on its Facebook page that its newly installed parking kiosks will go live on Wednesday.

"Our Finance and Public Works staff have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the kiosks are ready to go," the borough said on Facebook. "Parking enforcement will resume on Wednesday as well."

The new parking kiosks and Pay by Plate system offer several ways to pay for parking in Carlisle's short-term parking areas, the borough said.

Customers can still pay with coins at each kiosk, the borough added. Customers can pay for increments of up to two hours at a rate of:

  • 5 cents for four minutes
  • 10 cents for eight minutes
  • 15 cents for 12 minutes
  • 35 cents for 28 minutes
  • 75 cents per hour

The kiosks also accept credit cards at a rate of $1.15 per hour, with a one-hour minimum and two hours maximum, the borough said.

Customers can also download the Flowbird app from Google Play or the App Store and use it to pay as well, according to the borough. The rates are the same as credit card payments, plus a separate vendor fee of 35 cents per transaction.

Customers can also use the Pay by Text feature at each kiosk by texting "PARKCAR1" to 727563 and entering their license plate number and payment information. The rate is $1.15/hour with an hour minimum, plus a separate vendor processing fee of $.35/transaction.

Every payment method will require the customer to have their license plate number handy, the borough said.
