CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — The proprietor of two Cumberland County massage spas is facing charges after detectives claim she and employees were providing sexual services in exchange for cash.

Chuanxia Wang, 69, of Newport, Perry County, was charged after an investigation of two spas she is allegedly associated with.

Wang is licensed to run Li's Asian Spa on the 300 block of East High Street in Carlisle, police said. Members of the Cumberland County Criminal Investigation Team began investigating the business after executing a search warrant on Oct. 22 at another Carlisle establishment, GL Massage Therapy, located on the 1700 block of West Trindle Road.

The search warrant was part of a human trafficking investigation at GL Massage Therapy, detectives said in charging documents.

While searching GL Massage Therapy, investigators found a massage therapy license on the wall with Wang's name on it, according to charging documents.

Investigators interviewed employees at GL Massage Therapy, who identified Wang as manager of Li's Asian Spa. Charging documents state that one of the workers at GL Massage Therapy allegedly admitted to providing sexual services to customers and claimed Wang engaged in similar conduct.

Investigators then began surveillance at Li's Asian Spa and interviewed multiple customers who admitted to paying workers there for sex acts.

The investigation also uncovered online reviews of Li's Asian Spa that stated the workers exchanged sex acts for money there.

On Nov. 19, detectives served a search warrant at Li's Asian Spa. The property owner told authorities that Wang and her husband rented the space from him.

Wang's husband told police she owned and operated the business there for seven years and also worked at GL Massage Therapy.

Both Wang and her husband denied there was any illegal activity occurring at either spa, according to the criminal complaint.

However, an employee at Li's Asian Spa allegedly admitted to providing sexual services for money, and two customers at the spa also allegedly told investigators they came there to receive sex acts in exchange for cash.

Wang is charged with:

  • Corrupt organizations (three felony counts)
  • Dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities (two counts)
  • Trafficking in individuals (one count)
  • Promoting prostitution (one felony count)
  • Promoting prostitution (two misdemeanor counts)

She was taken to Cumberland County Prison on Nov. 20 for arraignment and is free after posting bail of $100,000, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
