1 killed in Cumberland County crash

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — One person is dead after a weekend crash in Cumberland County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers say the crash occurred just before 12:25 a.m. on Sept. 7 in the 2200 block of Newville Road (Route 641).

According to State Police, a 2004 Ford Freestar was driving east on Newville Road when the driver fell asleep, causing the car to drift off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a utility pole and spun back onto the westbound lanes of the roadway. The passenger was thrown from the car and sustained fatal injuries. The driver was taken to a hospital.

Troopers identified the deceased as Nadia A. Startzman, 20, of Chambersburg.

A car driving westbound on Newville Road at the time of the crash was hit by debris; the driver was not injured.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.
